First of all a huge thank you to our wonderful sponsors that made “Read to Succeed" Summer Reading Program a success. 76 children and adults signed up and 61 finished the program. Excellent statistics for a community of 405! Our sponsors provided a variety of incentives to make the program successful. T & M Clothing designed and donated shirts to all children and adults who finished the program. Mel’s Pit Stop provided ice cream cones to all children when they reached the halfway point. Bennett Grain provided funds for Christine Boeve, owner of fresh Paint to help children create their own masterpiece on canvas. Tipton Pharmacy and Tiffany’s Bakery donated gift cards for the adult grand prize drawing. Walmart donated a neon colored bike and helmet for the children's grand prize drawing. Just looking at that bike was a huge incentive to finish the program and be put in the drawing!
The summer reading program is finished but that doesn’t mean that programs and activities stop. We have lots of activities and new books. Story Hour is every Tuesday at 4:00. On Tuesday August 16 our story will be safety themed. At 4:30 Cedar County Sheriff Deputy Allie Thompson will at the library to talk about safety. This program is for children, families and adults of all ages. Topics will include When to call 911, When Not to call 911 and other basic safety issues. Tours of Deputy Thompson’s car, including lights and sirens will be given. And children can experience fingerprinting! On August 30 at 4:00 Miss Sarah from Cedar County Conservation will be at the library with games and activities about fish. September will bring Family Fun Nutrition, an adult class with Fresh Paint, Crocheting with Karis and Wednesday Afternoon at the Movies. Check us out on Facebook for further details as they become available.
As I mentioned we have lots of new books available for both adults and children. To see the complete list of new books and movies, go to our new website www.bennettpubliclibrary.com. You can also use the website to renew books, reserve books and movies or to make requests for books and movies. While you are on our webpage, you can look at all the e-books and audio books available through Bridges Electronic Library. If you have any questions about how to get books from Bridges, please call or come in so Miss Mindy can help you through the process.
There is so much available at the library, please use it!
